Republican Scott Brown who defeated Democrat Martha Coakley in the US Senate race in Massachusetts was loudly cheered by daughter, Ayla Brown, as the results were declared.

Ayla Brown had competed on the 5th season of popular TV show American Idol and had made it to the top 24 stage of the singing competition. The season 9 of American Idol has recently started.

Scott Brown won the Massachusetts senate seat that was previously held for close to fifty years by the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

In the contestant profile at American Idol, Ayla Brown listed people who serve in the armed forces, like her father, as her heroes. Once Martha Coakley conceded the elections, Ayla, who is also an enthusiastic basketball player, posted updates on her dad’s election victory on social networking websites such as Twitter and Facebook.

She also posted a feed that included video clips of her performance at her dad’s victory party.

The victory of Scott Brown is being considered as the most shocking moment in United States politics for a generation. Brown’s victory means the sixty seat majority held by Democrats in the senate that enabled them to close legislation debate has been lost.

Scott Brown won by 52% to Marta Coakley’s 47% and excuses have already started flowing in from the Democrats, who are blaming the defeat on the poor election campaign run by Ms. Coakley.
