Conan O’Brien thanks fans, NBC in final ‘The Tonight Show’
Conan O’Brien brought an end to his short stint as the host of popular ‘The Tonight Show’ on Friday by taking shots at TV network NBC but later, took the high path and thanked his former employer for giving him an opportunity to work at ‘the best job in the whole world’.
During his final moments on the ‘Tonight Show’, Conan told audiences and viewers at home, the TV network has been his home for most of his adult life. The show had started with the audience chanting ‘Conan, Conan’, and giving him a standing ovation. After the audience settled down, Conan cracked up saying the ovation would let him last for a while.
Later in the show, the talk show host in a more serious note said, he was extremely proud of the work done and would thank NBC for making all of it possible.
Conan’s guests for his last show were comedian Will Ferrell, actor Tom Hanks, and singer Neil Young. The Thursday night show also featured an X-rated performance by Robin Williams, who targeted NBC and a surprise appearance by Ben Stiller.
‘The Tonight Show’ was hosted by Jay Leno for 17 years and was the top-rated talk shows for US late night television. Conan O’Brien took over from Leno in June but the show ratings slumped, forcing NBC to bring back Jay Leno.
Conan O’Brien has been in negotiations with NBC bosses for more than a week and has reached a deal that will make him free to take a new job anywhere after 1st September.
