Tom Sherak, Academy President and 2008 Academy-nominated Anne Hathaway, announced the Oscar nominations for the year 2010. The highlights of the 2010 Oscar nominations were the ten featured films nominated in the category of Best Picture.

The biggest surprises at the  Oscar nominations 2010 came from the Academy’s Best Picture category, with nominations going to The Blind Side, Neill Blomkamp’s District 9 and Pixar’s Up. In the Best Supporting Actress category, Maggie Gyllenhaal landed a nomination for her brilliant performance in Crazy Heart, while Jeremy Renner got his first nomination for The Hunt in the Best Actor category.

The 2010 Grammys award was clearly a women’s night and the absence of competition from their male counterparts saw Taylor Swift and Beyonce continue their domination over music award shows like never before.

The 2010 Grammys award winners list include Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift who won the album of year. Beyonce and Taylor Swift ruled over the Grammy last night by winning 10 Grammies between them. Beyonce and her husband Jay-Z were the hit pair of the night winning as many as 9 awards between them.

Taylor Swift won 4 Grammies; Beyonce bagged 6 while Jay-Z won 3.

Taylor Swift barely out of her teens looked ravishing at the award night and there is hardly anyone around her age who can be compared to her beauty or singing talent. Beyonce who is 8 years older than Taylor Swift dominated the awards and will continue to be a big name in the music industry like the King of Pop, Michael Jackson was. Michael Jackson’s kids Paris and Prince were the highlight of the award night as they received the Lifetime Achievement award on behalf of their late father.

Michael’s son Prince impressed everyone at the presentation as he said that his father’s message of love for humanity will be carried forward by the kids.

Caressa Cameron sang ‘Listen’, the hit song of Beyonce from the hit movie, ‘Dreamgirls’ and answered a difficult question on teen obesity.

The new Miss America 2010 was a student at Virginia Commonwealth University and has pursued a broadcast communication degree. The new Miss America 2010 wants to complete a Mass Communications Masters degree and follow it with a top news anchor position for television. BTW, she looks stunning in a bikini swimsuit too!

Cameron has been on the Virginia Commonwealth University’s dean’s list and has received several academic honors. She has received more than $35,000 in scholarship money in 2009 because of her participation in the Miss America Organization. The Virginia native is also an active campaigner for AIDS awareness and supports the cause across the nation.

She has also been given a President’s Volunteer Service Award and Congressional Honor for her community service in VA. The new Miss America 2010 had a lot of time during the Miss Virginia pageant, winning several talent and preliminary swimsuit rounds. Miss Virginia Caressa Cameron can now proudly wear the Miss America 2010 crown and give a big boost to the causes close to her heart.

Despite Los Angeles known as the world’s entertainment capital, the LA auditions of American Idol proved to be quite tame, except for the fiery exchanges between Katy Perry and fellow show judge Kara DioGuardi, which were quite entertaining.

The biggest standout of the night was Mary Powers, a 28-year-old native of Burbank, California. The mother of an 8-year-old daughter sang ‘Love Is a Battlefield’ bringing a smile on Avril Lavigne’s face. Idol judge, Simon Cowell too liked her vocals but found her black-on-black fashion style an old formula of trying to look like a rock star. Lavigne felt Powers voice had character and was raspy. Another contestant who stood out on day one was Neil Ranger, a father of 3 and a Pastor, who impressed Idol judges with his rendition of ‘Drive’.

Day two of American Idol LA auditions too produced a few number of potential stars with the exception of Andrew Garcia, who sang a soulful version of ‘Sunday Morning’, Tasha Leyton, who nailed it with Joss Stone’s ‘Baby, Baby, Baby’ and LA shoe salesman Chris Golightly, who struck an emotional note with the Judges with his take on ‘Stand By Me’.

In all, 22 contestants from LA made it to the Hollywood round of American Idol.

The two actors are considered by many to be true Hollywood royals. Brad Pitt is the stylish leading man who commands huge box office dollars. Angelina Jolie is a former wild child that has cleaned up her ways and is now a Goodwill Ambassador. Together, they both are raising 6 children and setting new tabloid coverage standards.

The Brangelina story that we read in the tabloids each week is not the image portrayed by the do-good couple. On one hand, the tabloids say that Jolie and Pitt and at the end of their relationship and are fiercely fighting. Brad Pitt has also started to rekindle his affair with Jennifer Aniston, which just makes Jolie go berserk.

The worst part of this whole affair is that the internet is divided into camps. On one side, you have the pro-Brangelina group – the Brangeloonies and on the opposite side, the Brangelina Haters. The Brangeloonies defend all actions of the stars and have even forgiven Brad Pitt for cheating on Jennifer Aniston with Angelina Jolie and rubbish the character issues that seem evident with Jolie.

Both Brad and Angelina have not said anything about the Brad and Angelina latest news of their split. However, the whole world is waiting with anxious breath to know for sure if their two favorite stars have really ended up or this Brad and Angelina divorce news is just another run of the mill story.

All those who watched The Pregnancy Pact on Lifetime tonight, may be probably wondering as to how “true” the story really is. Well, the true story behind ‘The Pregnancy Pact’ comes from good old Gloucester, Massachusetts.

The story began in June 2008, when a story was run by TIME Magazine called, “The Pregnancy Boom” at local public school Gloucester High. Seventeen girls were pregnant in that summer at Gloucester High, a number that was 4 times higher than the pregnancy numbers of the previous year.

According to the TIME Magazine story, the principal of the school said that the rise in number of pregnancies was because of a ‘pregnancy pact’ between a group of sophomore girls.

Joseph Sullivan, the principal of the school, told TIME that eight pregnant girls had admitted to a pregnancy pact in which they pledged to together raise their babies and help each other. One of the pregnant girls had been conceived by a 24-year old homeless man.

The story shocked the entire nation and put school Principal Joseph Sullivan in a tough spot, as the ‘confessions’ of the girls were retracted and they went on record denying an pregnancy pact.

We may never know if there was any pregnancy pact in Gloucester Massachusetts. The town Mayor had investigated the Principal’s accusations but never substantiated the pregnancy pact story. However, it does make an interesting TV story, don’t you think?

Motherless Child is derived from the classic spiritual, ‘Sometimes I Feel Like a Motherless Child’. The song dates back some two hundred years ago and was included in the John Legend’s independent album released in 2004, prior to ‘Get Lifted’, his debut album.

The charitable event was produced by MTV Networks in partnership with George Clooney, who singled out John Legend and Jennifer Hudson as music artists that have the ability to make the one-time telethon event into a long-term drive to help the survivors of the massive Haiti Earthquake.

Other music artists that performed at the event included Jay-Z, Beyonce, Lauryn Hill, Alicia Keys, Wycleaf Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Jennifer Hudson, Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake, Dave Matthews, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Kid Rock, Coldplay, Sheryl Crow, Bono and Rihanna.

The “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon on Friday night saw some of the biggest Hollywood names come together making the event a success.

Celebrities like Bradley Copper, Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens answered phones and accepted donations. While, others like Robert Pattinson talked about the significance of technology during such crisis and George Clooney, one of the driving forces behind the telethon shared aftermath stories of the devastating earthquake. There were also performances by signers Madonna, Jay-Z and Beyonce that made the night memorable.

One of the many music artists at the “Hope for Haiti Now” benefit was Justin Timberlake, who performed a heartwarming cover of Leonard Cohen’s ‘Hallelujah’. Singing alongside him was Matt Morris, a former member of the Mickey Mouse club. Chris Pine, the actor from Star Trek was answering phone calls from people interested in donating to the noble cause.

The event also saw some of Hollywood’s leading ladies like Reese Witherspoon, Cindy Crawford, Julia Roberts and Drew Barrymore (also an assistant director at the event) sitting side-by-side and answering calls.

Haiti was hit by a massive earthquake of magnitude 7.0 on 12th January near its capital, Port-au-Prince. Many buildings were damaged extensively and the number of dead or injured is estimated to be well over 100,000. All administrative fees have been waived by the Entertainment Industry Foundation and 100% of funds from the event will be contributed towards Haiti earthquake relief efforts.

During his final moments on the ‘Tonight Show’, Conan told audiences and viewers at home, the TV network has been his home for most of his adult life. The show had started with the audience chanting ‘Conan, Conan’, and giving him a standing ovation. After the audience settled down, Conan cracked up saying the ovation would let him last for a while.

Later in the show, the talk show host in a more serious note said, he was extremely proud of the work done and would thank NBC for making all of it possible.

Conan’s guests for his last show were comedian Will Ferrell, actor Tom Hanks, and singer Neil Young. The Thursday night show also featured an X-rated performance by Robin Williams, who targeted NBC and a surprise appearance by Ben Stiller.

‘The Tonight Show’ was hosted by Jay Leno for 17 years and was the top-rated talk shows for US late night television. Conan O’Brien took over from Leno in June but the show ratings slumped, forcing NBC to bring back Jay Leno.

Conan O’Brien has been in negotiations with NBC bosses for more than a week and has reached a deal that will make him free to take a new job anywhere after 1st September.

Comedienne and E! host Chelsea Handler graces the December cover of Playboy and discusses topics like holiday cooking, inter-office hookups, and why she prefers to keep holidays secular.

Handler suggests that if you have drank too much and hooking up with one of your co-workers seems like a good idea, it would be best to do it some place less public, such as a car. She says that if you are going to commit a mistake that you will regret the next day, it would be nice to do it at some place classy. Chelsea recently broke up with Ted Halbert, the boss at E!

In the issue, Handler also tells Playboy why she likes to keep her holidays secular. She feels that to have a good time at Christmas, it should be celebrated among family and friends and a little bit of porn should be thrown in.

When asked about her favorite holiday meal, Handler said she loves having a big holiday meal with her friends. She has always been a potatoes-and-meat kind of girl and loves mashed potatoes, baked hams, and a huge turkey stuffed with tryptophan and Vicodin.
